In my mind, I feel that everyone has a generic response to the question. "Why do you want to be a teacher?", but for me it's not so generic. I chose to become a teacher because of the experiences that I had when I was a student in school. All of my teachers and coaches have all had a hand in what I am today, and it is because of them I have decided to be a teacher. It is my objective to pass on similar experiences that I had onto to my future students. This is very important to me as I know I play a role on who they may eventually become, and that alone is an important responsibility. My mentor in high school once told me that if you're in this business for the money, then you're in it for the wrong reasons. I chose this as my role because I enjoy teaching and giving students an experience that they may not have the chance to get elsewhere.
I believe physical education is to be used as a tool to allow students to actively engage themselves in learning. Students in physical education are here to learn healthy habits, which they can use for the rest of their lives. The healthy habits, or goals, are; cardiovascular health, socialization, diet, and nutrition. These habits will be instilled in the students so they may be able to lead a healthier lifestyle. I am a firm believer of the statement, "practice makes perfect"; it takes time and practice to become good at anything. By giving positive feedback, I will be able to show my students what they are doing correctly, and correct any mistakes that may occur during the activity, in order to assist them in becoming the best that they can be.
Physical Education’s purpose is to give students the ability to be able to lead a healthy lifestyle. One of the biggest challenges when teaching physical education is being able to teach it in a positive manner. By portraying physical education in a positive manner, students will not associate physical activity as a form of discipline. I believe that by presenting physical education in a positive manner, students will be more adept and willing to learn new skills and ways to not only become healthy, but also stay healthy for the rest of their lives.
Keeping in mind that every student is an individual person, and each one has their own learning style, it is important for me to be able to adjust my instructional methods in order to better fit the needs and development of my individual students. One size does not fit all, and flexibility will be my watchword.
